It’s the most wonderful tiiiiiiiiiime of the year! Man-oh-man do I like Christmas. What other month of the year encourages multiple parties day after day? Whether you have just one party to attend or five, don’t arrive empty handed. It’s your turn to show some gratitude for being invited to a lovely party.
I see you grabbing that bottle of wine off the counter and running out the door, but I’m going to stop you right there. Does that after-thought of a gift really reflect your gratitude? Nah.
You don’t need a lot of time, or money, to upgrade the boozy hostess gift, making a more lasting impression this season.
New Day Northwest on King 5 asked me to share my tips for enhancing the go-to party gift this holiday season. I promise these ideas are do-able, affordable and make a big “wow” factor. You can view the whole segment here.
Stock up on artisanal chocolates, and practical accessories. These two items with a bow around it top it off and make your wine bottle a true gift.
Go a step further and throw an ornament around the neck for some pizazz and write a message to the hosts with liquid chalk. This way they know who to think fondly of as they sip this wine a few days later.

Gifting spirits gives you permission to give something unique. Something the host might not take a chance on. I chose a “night cap” theme with my spirits, added a holiday mug and plopped them in a bowl.
It’s all about packing on this one. Take a second look and you’ll see I didn’t really do much of anything other than place the items in a wood bowl from Target and tie a ribbon around it. Voila! Bonus points if you add an ornament with a personal message, or a drink recipe.

- Skip Rock Distillers Liqueur, Total Wines
- Santa Mug, Target
- Plaid Frame Ornament, Target

If you haven’t tried Peabody Jone’s sipping vodka from Woodinville Whiskey, you haven’t lived. Or at least fully because this full body, caramel toned sipping vodka is fantastic! And at $20 a bottle, it makes this a no-brainer.
I wrapped a tea towel around the bottle for color and practicality, and then topped it off with an ornament and personal message. Boom! I’m crushing this guest thing.
What gift supports local breweries and funds socially responsible projects around the world? Only Miir can do that! Gifting this ultra sexy growler is one thing, but fill it up and tie some munchies on and you’ll be invited back year after year.
I chose Skinny Dipped Almonds because they’re locally owned, the packaging is perfect for gift giving, and they’re damn tasty.
Lastly, I threw some tree baubles around the canister for some festive color. In fact, stock up on gift tags and tree bulbs for gift giving accessories. That’s a real pro move.
In the end, your presence is enough. If you need to grab that un-festooned bottle and run out the door, you do you. But perhaps some of these simple idea will inspire you to take that non-descript gift and turn it into something to write home about.
